Taking the benefits of your role is an action and can be taken anytime that is convenient during your action phase, but most often players take it first. The only time you might not is if you had movement from your role that you wanted to time out to happen later in your action phase. Remember, if you do an action you need to take the complete action. So you couldn't take the money from your role and then later use the movement you get from the role. You would need to do everything you wanted to associated with the benefits.
